Embassy of Myanmar in New Delhi holds commemorative reception for the 77th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar (20-2-2025, New Delhi)

The event was graced by the presence of His Excellency Shri Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles of the Republic of India, as the Chief Guest. It was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and the Ministry of Tourism of India, along with Ambassadors, Chargés d’Affaires, and Military Attachés from ASEAN member states, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BIMSTEC, BRICS, and other friendly nations. Representatives from leading Indian business chambers, including the Indian Chamber of Commerce, the Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO), the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), and the Indo-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, were also in attendance, alongside distinguished members of economic, social, and cultural organizations, business leaders, and the Myanmar-India community.

The reception commenced with the rendition of the national anthems of Myanmar and India, followed by a keynote address delivered by His Excellency Mr. Zaw Oo, Ambassador of Myanmar to India. As a symbolic gesture of friendship and commemoration, the Ambassador and the Chief Guest jointly cut a ceremonial cake, followed by a group photograph session. Guests were then served a buffet dinner featuring Indian cuisine, along with two traditional Myanmar delicacies—coconut noodle soup and tea leaf salad—offering them a taste of Myanmar’s unique flavors.

During the commemorative reception, distinguished guests had the opportunity to experience Myanmar’s rich cultural heritage through an exhibition showcasing traditional handicrafts, including lacquerware, Pathein umbrellas, woven bamboo balls, marionettes, jade, paintings, Thanakha (traditional cosmetic paste), and handloom weaving.

In honor of Myanmar’s vibrant cultural heritage and spirit of independence, the evening’s cultural highlight was a captivating performance by a dance troupe from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture of Myanmar. The performance featured a variety of traditional Myanmar dances, including a solo dance, a duet dance, a Zawgyi Puppet Dance, a Ramayana-inspired deer-hunting scene, and a Shwebo Thanakha dance, offering a glimpse into Myanmar’s rich artistic traditions.
