Ambassador of Myanmar receives the donations of cash and relief supplies for the earthquake-affected population in Myanmar (25-4-2025, New Delhi)
On 28 March 2025, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck approximately 20 miles northeast of Mandalay, resulting in widespread damage across the regions of Sagaing, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, and other areas. In response to this natural disaster, the Embassy has received a series of thoughtful contributions from well-wishers across India.
In support of the people affected by the earthquake in these areas, the Vellore Institute of Technology (India) donated INR 1,000,000 (ten lakhs), while Indraprastha Apollo Hospital contributed INR 400,000 (four lakhs) along with medical supplies worth INR 100,000 (one lakh), to the Myanmar Embassy on April 24, 2025. These donations were received by H.E. Mr. Zaw Oo, Ambassador of Myanmar, who presented certificates of appreciation in acknowledgment of their solidarity and support.
The Embassy has also received further donations in both cash and kind from a wide range of contributors, including Indian businesspeople, companies, corporations, hospitals, educational institutions, civil society organizations, philanthropists, Myanmar nationals residing in India, and Myanmar Buddhist monasteries across India, in support of earthquake relief efforts in Myanmar.
The humanitarian aid received to date includes (176) boxes of medicines and medical supplies, (4) boxes of water purification tablets, (62) boxes of food items, (13) boxes of Hope Jackets, (3) boxes of mosquito nets and blankets, (48) boxes of personal hygiene and household goods—totaling (306) boxes of critical relief materials. Additionally, 12 family-sized tents and 25 sleeping bags, were also received.
As of April 25, 2025, the total monetary donations received by the Embassy amounted to USD (9,000), Indian Rupee (2,405,537), Myanmar Kyat (107,017,000). In addition, the Embassy has received foreign currencies equivalent to approximately USD (1,600), comprising Thai Baht, Sri Lankan Rupees, Nepalese Rupees, Bangladeshi Taka, Vietnamese Dong, Indonesian Rupiah, Cambodian Riel, and Lao Kip.
All donations will be channeled to Myanmar’s National Disaster Management Committee via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist relief and rehabilitation efforts. Any future contributions will be acknowledged through public announcements.
