Buddhist Sasana Titles: Call for Nominations

Buddhist Sasana Titles (Religious Titles) are honorific titles conferred by the Myanmar government, to recognize members of the Sangha as well as civilians who strive for development of promotion and propagation of the Sasana. The calls for nominations for the following Religious Titles are now open:-

For Monks:
1. Abhidhaja Agga Mahā Saddhamma Jotika
2. Agga Mahā Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja
3. Mahā Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja
4. Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja
5. Agga Mahā Kammaṭṭhānācariya
6. Mahā Kammaṭṭhānācariya
7. Kammaṭṭhānācariya

For Nuns:
1. Mahā Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja
2. Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja

For Civilians:
1. Mahā Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja
2. Saddhamma Jotika Dhaja, and
3. Sāsanānuggaha titles

***Nomination Process*****

The deadline for Nominations in all categories is June 23 , 2019. Nominees of all nationalities residence in India are eligible. Each nomination will include a 500-word statement regarding the nominee’s relevant contributions for Promotion and Propagation of the Sanana, a five-page resume of the nominee along with 4inches x 6inches size passport photo, valid ID proof and Address Proof, and the names and contact information of three members of the Buddhist Religious community who are prepared to endorse the nomination if contacted. Nominations should be emailed to the Embassy of Myanmar in New Delhi: myandelhi@gmail.com. Past recipients are not eligible for the same award they received previously. Recipients may only receive one of the above mentioned titles per year.

****Selection Process*****

The Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in New Delhi will review nominations for each award category, determine whether it is appropriate to apply the honorific Religious title for each of the categories, and make a selection for final nomination process to Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture in Myanmar. We thank all nominees for their interest,however only those nominees selected for interviews will be contacted.
